Working Together to Safeguard Children 2010 (Chapter 8) sets out the purpose and process of Serious Case Reviews (SCR). SCR’s are undertaken when a child dies (including suicide), and abuse or neglect is known or suspected to be a factor in the death. Research of Serious Case Reviews, published October 2010 In October 2010 the Department for Education published 2 research papers. The first paper concentrates on learning lessons nationally from SCRs: this examines the extent of local and national learning and looks at the implications for policy and practice. Learning from Serious Case Reviews or A short summary of the report The second paper is the latest bi-ennial review of SCRs. This is a much shorter report than previous reviews and reflects the current transition in SCR practice. The report focuses on data from the Child Protection Database but also includes a quantitave analysis to bring details of the children and young people into the foreground.
