Seek support for themselves and others Course content includes:- * Legal issues around duty of care and challenging behaviour * Defining challenging behaviour * Causes of challenging behaviour * Understanding how our own and others’ actions can either reduce or escalate a young person’s behaviour * Prevention of challenging behaviour including aggression * Managing violence & aggression * Assessing risks around behaviours * Dealing with oppositional behaviour * Techniques you can use: De-escalation, distraction and diffusion * Organisational support to help manage risk and challenging situations * Recording incidents * The role of debriefing * Definitions of physical contact and how and when physical interventions may be used including associated legal issues This course is a pre - requisite requirement for staff intending to take part in either the physical intervention program or escapes training. Back Physical Intervention Courses C.A.L.M. Physical Intervention, introduction course (BILD accredited) The aim of these courses is to help create a safe caring environment for both service users and staff. Physical Intervention Training Course outline: It has been designed to help staff deal appropriately with service users, and young people who by their behaviour could pose a risk to the safety and security of other service users, them selves and staff. Who's it for: These courses have been commissioned to address an identified training need in Children & Families residential units and school settings. The course has been designed specifically to consider disabilities issues and therefore is open to staff from Learning Disabilities Day Care Services. What you should learn: The importance of communication and listening as a way of De-escalating potential conflict. * How to operate safely and effectively within the organisational regulations and guidelines. * Safe and non-harmful holding techniques. * Clearly explain when it is and when it is not appropriate to use physical intervention. * Ensure the protection of staff and clients and young peoples rights. * Demonstrate the use of approved last resort physical intervention techniques. * Explain the key health risks associated with the use of physical interventions and the key safety points to be aware of. One day C.A.L.M. Physical Intervention annual refresher course This annual refresher is will make sure trained staff remain up to date with their skills and knowledge and is a requirement under DoH / DfES 2002 guidance. Escape Training Who's it for: All staff working with clients or young people who can find themselves in situations where as a last resort they need to Escape from a potential assault and protect themselves. This program is applicable to a wide audience, including anyone who could face potentially volatile individuals. It specifically focuses upon being able to get out of a difficult situation and keeping yourself safe. What you should learn: * To provide participants with the skill and techniques to keep themselves safe. * To develop participants confidence to physically remove themselves from difficult situations. * Demonstrate the use of approved last resort breakaway techniques and ensure they are always seen as the last resort.
